Description:

New World, Hawaiian Islands, ca. late 20th century CE. A fabulous and large footed urn showing attractive polishing and graining, hand-carved from milo wood. The vessel boasts a large footed base with stepped peripheries, a spherical body with several carved horizontal bands along the top and bottom halves, a rolled rim leading into a deep interior cavity, and a cup-shaped bowl with a knob handle. The majority of the vessel is stained a deep chestnut brown, though areas of lighter toffee-hued stain imbue both body and lid with a wonderful bichrome appearance. Size: 8.125" W x 12" H (20.6 cm x 30.5 cm); 19.625" H (49.8 cm) with included lid.
