Oceania, Papua New Guinea, West Sepik River region, ca. early 20th century CE. A wonderful wood food bowl, meticulously hand-carved with twin, openwork handles and intricate geometric motifs. The dish presents a planar base and sturdy walls that rise outwards to an amygdaloid rim. Incised decoration adorns the chocolate brown-hued exterior with a band of concentric squircles just below the rim and a design of ovals and triangles on the base. The slender handles flank the vessel, each stretching from the base to the rim with a tiered knob extended outwards near the top. Size: 14.6" L x 6.9" W x 3.3" H (37.1 cm x 17.5 cm x 8.4 cm)
