Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A beautiful ushabti figure that is mold-formed from faience and covered in soft blue-green glaze. The regal figure stands with fused legs atop an integral plinth, exhibits slender thighs and hips beneath a pick and hoe held in crossed arms, and has a seed bag draped behind the left shoulder. The visage presents ovoid eyes with elongated outer canthi, a slightly upturned nose above pouty lips, and a plaited false beard, all beneath a simple tripartite wig. Nine rows of inscribed hieroglyphic text wraps around the legs and, though untranslated, provides the name and title of the deceased as well as protective incantations for the journey through the afterlife until reaching the hallowed fields of Osiris. Size: 1.6" W x 6.625" H (4.1 cm x 16.8 cm)

Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, acquired before 2000
