Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, 1479 to 1401 BCE. This is a large, beautiful, intact green glazed steatite beetle of naturalistic form with a notched wing case; the base has been inscribed with the prenome “Menkheperkare, the one whom Re chose.” Menkheperkare is an early form of Thutmose III’s prenomen, used mainly during his coregency with Hatshepsut. Thutmose III (also Tutmosis) is known as the "Napoleon of Egypt", famous for his victories on the field of battle whilst his stepmother ruled; she is often known as the "first great woman in history of whom we are informed". Size: 1.85" L x 1.6" W (4.7 cm x 4.1 cm).
