Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A nicely-preserved ushabti which was formed in a mold from chalky-white faience with faint hints of yellow and orange pigment. The figure stands in mummiform atop an integral rectangular plinth, holds the symbolic pick and hoe in arms crossed against the chest, and has a seed bag draped behind the left shoulder. Long almond-shaped eyes, a broad nose, full lips curled into a slight smile, cupped ears, and a braided false beard define the serene countenance, and a tripartite wig with frontal folds caps the head. The lower body is wrapped with 9 registers of inscribed hieroglyphic text, each separated by an incised striation. Size: 1.375" W x 5.4" H (3.5 cm x 13.7 cm).
