Description:

Pre-Columbian, Maya Territories, Honduras / El Salvador, Copador, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A wonderful handbuilt terracotta bowl of a rounded form with a corseted shoulder, painted on both the interior and the exterior walls. Two elongated swimming figures, representing the mythological Hero Twins, occupy the wide lower register of the exterior. Above them is a narrower band of pseudo glyphs. The interior also presents stylized glyphs surrounding an abstract target motif. All is painted in hues of red, orange, and black on a tawny beige ground with black and red bands framing the imagery and demarcating the rim and base. Size: 7.3" in diameter x 3.1" H (18.5 cm x 7.9 cm)
