Description:

Pre-Columbian, Olmec culture, ca. 1150 to 550 BCE. A pair of cylindrical ceramic rollers, each hollow in the center, with their exteriors carved with deeply incised curved patterns. The larger has a simple pattern of leaf- or eye-like shapes, while the other has a more dense pattern of tightly packed lines and swirls. Rollers like these were probably made to be fitted onto sticks and then rolled across textiles or down arms and legs to create elaborate painted motifs. Size of larger: 2.25" W x 2.55" H (5.7 cm x 6.5 cm)
