Description:

Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Viking, ca. 9th to 11th century CE. A lovely pendant cast from a high-purity gold alloy (approximately 84%, or 20K+) with about 10% silver content. The circular form opens gracefully at the base and frames an intricate wirework design of mirrored spirals joined at the center, evoking the distinctive 'double-spiral' motif emblematic of Norse artistry. Such pendants were often worn suspended from necklaces or sewn into clothing, functioning both as markers of personal adornment and silent emblems of status, craftsmanship, or even spiritual belief. The elegant geometry may have alluded to protective charms or carried symbolic weight in Norse visual language, possibly echoing ancient solar or cosmological motifs found throughout Germanic metalwork. Size: 1" L x 0.8" W (2.5 cm x 2 cm); gold quality: 84% (equivalent to 20K+); silver quality: 10% to 11%; weight: 3.9 grams
