Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Oaxaca, Zapotec culture, Monte Alban, ca. 100 BCE to 200 CE. A mold-formed pottery fragment depicting the head of a regal figure. The face boasts recessed ovoid eyes, impressed circular tattooing, curvilinear facial striations, and pursed lips in front of a pair of pseudo-glyphs. The elaborate headdress has a tiered top section and a projecting rectangular feather, and the verso exhibits a pair of curling volutes to the side of a thick vertical bar. Size: 4.625" L x 2.875" W (11.7 cm x 7.3 cm).
