Description:

**Originally Listed At $1500**

Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, ca. 500 to 800 CE. This finely carved, light-green jade pendant features relief carved to depict the Maize God's stylized visage, richly ornamented with an elaborate headdress and ear discs. As was the custom, the Mayan artisan worked with the natural shape of the stone rather than lose any precious surface area. The stone was drilled behind the headdress for suspension of this lovely pendant. Reverse clearly shows how this was string cut to remove from a large stone. Nice example! Size: 2.125" W x 1.875" H (5.4 cm x 4.8 cm)
