Description:

Ancient Seas, likely Africa, Madagascar, Cretaceous period, ca. 145 to 66 million years ago. A superb, fossilized ammonite of the Cleoniceras genus, the tightly coiled shell is fully excavated from the sediment and boasts a vibrant iridescent red sheen on one side, showcasing a rainbow of colors that shift with the light. These prehistoric marine mollusks are prized for their stunning natural patterns and iconic shell symmetry. The fiery, opalescent glow of the fossil is due to its aragonite shell, preserved and mineralized over millions of years. A true conversation starter, this fossil is perfect for collectors and those fascinated by Earth's ancient history. Perhaps more interesting, a pair of circular teeth marks can be seen on one side. These mollusks were evidently a perfect snack for beasts of the sea like the Mosasaur, found in the same region. Size: 10.5" L x 2.75" W x 8.75" H (26.7 cm x 7 cm x 22.2 cm)
