Description:

Prehistoric, Miocene to Pliocene epoch, ca. 23 to 3.6 million years ago. A large fossilized tooth from the legendary megalodon (Carcharocles megalodon), measuring 5.94" long, with a remarkable encrustation of fossilized coral on the enamel surface. The tooth retains its classic triangular form, with a pale ivory crown set against the darker, rugged root, creating a striking visual contrast. The edges, smoothed by the passage of geologic time, emphasize the tooth's monumental size and ancient presence rather than sharpness. Megalodon, the apex predator of its era, dominated the seas with an estimated length of up to 60 feet, feeding on whales and large marine mammals. Teeth such as this survive as enduring relics of the species, treasured by collectors for their monumental scale and evocative power. Size: 5.94" L x 4.16" W (15.1 cm x 10.6 cm); 6.5" H (16.5 cm) on included custom stand.

The coral encrustation is a particularly fascinating feature, offering a glimpse into the dynamic marine environments in which the tooth rested for millions of years before fossilization. Mounted on a custom display stand, this specimen embodies both natural history and geological artistry, capturing the story of predator and ocean alike in a single fossil.
