**Originally Listed At $200**

East Asia, China, Late Qing to Republic era, ca. late 19th to mid-20th century CE. A group of four porcelain figures in the Dehua (Blanc de Chine) style. The largest depicts the deified military general Guan Yu, seated in a dignified posture. The reverse of his pedestal bears two impressed seals: a double-gourd mark and a square seal, indicating a revival of the He Chaozong style. (See extended description below for further details on these marks.) The three smaller figures include a standing Guanyin, a scholar-immortal, and another Immortal figure. Each is stamped "China" on the base, with the Guanyin and other standing figure also featuring additional character marks. Size of largest: 5.5" W x 10" H (14 cm x 25.4 cm)

The He Chaozong style in Dehua ceramics refers to a distinctive sculptural tradition developed by the renowned porcelain artist He Chaozong, active during the late Ming dynasty (17th century). He is celebrated for his finely modeled white porcelain (blanc de Chine) religious figures - especially depictions of Guanyin, Luohan, and Bodhisattvas - crafted in the Dehua kilns of Fujian province. In the late 19th to early 20th century, this style saw a notable revival led by ceramicist Su Xuejin (1869-1919), whose reproductions were so masterfully executed they were often indistinguishable from originals. Many of these revival works bear the seal of the earlier master, blurring the lines between period and tribute.
