Description:

Ancient Near East, Persia, Sassanian Empire, ca. 3rd to 7th century CE. A cohesive group of four Sassanian bronze bowls, each shallow and generously proportioned, shaped with restrained elegance and timeworn authority. Hammered from sheet bronze and finished with gently rounded profiles, the bowls display richly variegated surfaces marked by deep olive tones, earthen browns, and blooms of turquoise and malachite patination. Areas of wear and mineral accretion testify to long use and burial, lending each vessel its own distinct character within the group. Bronze bowls of this type were widely used across the Sassanian world for domestic, ceremonial, and possibly ritual purposes, valued for their durability and clean, functional forms. Their simplicity reflects the Sassanian preference for well-balanced utility objects that relied on proportion and material rather than overt decoration. Subtle hammer marks remain visible beneath the patina, preserving the gestures of their makers. Size of largest: 6.9" Diameter x 2" H (17.5 cm x 5.1 cm)
