Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, ca. 500 to 1200 CE. Four high karat gold jingle bells - one 18 karat and three 16 karat gold - all of stunning brilliant yellow hues. Each bell has a a suspension loop at top and is fully functioning producing a musical jingling sound. The larger bells are adorned with red cinnabar on their upper ends. In the Pre-Columbian world gold possessions represented not only the owner's elite social status but also had sacred connotations as the yellow hues were associated with the sun and the celestial realm. A lovely group of musical bells that can easily be worn as pendants if desired. Gold tested to over 16 karats for three and over 18 karats for one bell.
