Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A nice gathering of four mold-formed faience ushabti figures of petite sizes that were perhaps part of a larger ensemble of funerary figures to accompany a deceased individual through the afterlife. Each figure exhibits a minimalist form with arms held against the chest, feet and legs held tightly together, and raised heads with false beards and tripartite wigs. Two figures are covered with a turquoise-hued glaze, and the remaining two figures are glazed with brilliant blue pigment. Size of largest: 0.75" W x 2.3" H (1.9 cm x 5.8 cm)

Provenance: private Corpus Christi, Texas, USA estate collection, acquired 1960s to 1970s

  • Condition: Repair to largest figure across knees, with very small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines; remaining 3 figures are intact and very good. All figures have old putty residue beneath feet from old display mounting. All figures have fading and pitting to areas of glaze, with softening to some finer details, and light encrustations. Great preservation to glaze pigment throughout.
