Ancient Egypt, Romano-Egyptian Period, ca. 30 BCE to 2nd century CE. A set of 4 mold-formed pottery effigies of Harpocrates, the child-like god of silence and secret-keeping. Three fragmentary heads show the youthful deity with full facial features and wearing the Pschent Crown of Upper and Lower Egypt, each instance with his right index finger placed to his lips. The largest is a full figure of Harpocrates, nude and holding a petite jar, and with lotus buds protruding laterally from his coiffure. Size: 1.5" L x 2.5" W x 6.9" H (3.8 cm x 6.4 cm x 17.5 cm); 8.1" H (20.6 cm) on included custom stand.
