Description:

Miller (American, XX-XXI). "Absolute X" mixed media on paper, n.d. Signed and titled at lower left. A rhythmic study in shadow and saturation, Absolute X pulses with a coded interior logic, its layers of texture and color teetering between abstraction and dreamlike suggestion. Against a backdrop of dusky red, mustard ochre, and forest green, forms emerge and recede - a blue architectural block with barred apertures, a constellation of white dots trailing toward a dark void, a vertical glyph painted like a forgotten character from a lost script. Miller choreographs the composition with confidence, allowing saturated fields to fracture, overlap, and bleed into one another. A streak of violet flanks the left border like a veil, while concentric circles, drips, and a comet-shaped dash occupy the lower right, hinting at the symbolic or celestial. Size of painting: 24" W x 35.25" H (61 cm x 89.5 cm); of frame: 33.25" W x 44.75" H (84.5 cm x 113.7 cm)

The title "Absolute X" lends the piece an enigmatic charge - suggesting a variable, an unknown, or perhaps a point of convergence between opposing forces. The surface is layered and tactile, revealing the hand of the artist in gestural brushstrokes, scraping, and soft diffusion. It is a work that invites close looking, as if its narrative - or its silence - might shift under continued attention. Signed and titled at the lower left, this piece belongs to an abstract tradition that values intuition, material presence, and the possibility of visual poetry over literal meaning.
