Description:

**Originally Listed At $200**

Ancient Central Asia, Gandhara, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE. A pottery relief fragment depicting the head of a figure modeled with the calm, softly naturalistic features characteristic of Gandharan sculpture. The face is framed by a close-fitting hat, its upper edge marked by a stippled border that adds rhythmic texture and visual emphasis. Though fragmentary, the piece reflects the region's distinctive fusion of Hellenistic sculptural influence and South Asian artistic tradition, likely originating from a larger narrative or architectural relief within a Buddhist context. Size: 2" W x 2.4" H (5.1 cm x 6.1 cm); 3" H (7.6 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex-T.F. Holy Lands collection, acquired in October 2024; ex-London, United Kingdom auction house; ex-property of an Oxfordshire, United Kingdom art professional; previously in an old British collection, formed in the 1980s in the United Kingdom
