Roman, late Republic Period, ca. 1st century BCE; Western Europe, probably England or France, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A beautiful gilt copper ring inlaid with a gorgeous, hand-carved carnelian intaglio. Incised atop the carnelian's surface is a left-facing woman dressed in flowing garb who holds a peacock in one hand, perhaps depicting the goddess Juno (Greek Hera), wife of Jupiter (Greek Zeus). Size (intaglio): 0.46" L x 0.38" W x 0.12" H (1.2 cm x 1 cm x 0.3 cm); (ring setting): 0.59" L x 0.83" W x 0.93" H (1.5 cm x 2.1 cm x 2.4 cm); metal quality: 44.95% copper, 33.43% gold (equivalent to 8K+); 21.04% silver; weight: 3.3 grams; US ring size: 9.5
