Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic period, ca. 712 to 332 BCE. This is a beautiful small necklace composed of multi-colored faience seed beads and seven poppy seed amulet beads made from stone (each one surrounded by two small silver beads each). Poppy seed beads from ancient Egypt remind us of the practice of ancient Egyptians cultivating opium from around 1300 BCE, which was used by priests and warriors and said to have been given to by Isis to Ra when he had a headache. Highly wearable! Size of strand: 19" L (48.3 cm); size of amulets: 0.5" H (1.3 cm).
