Description:

Greek, Magna Graecia, southern Italy, ca. 4th century BCE. A lovely pair of near identical blackware pottery wine and water pitchers, known as oinochoai (singular oenochoe/oinochoe). One is slightly larger than the other, but otherwise they are indistinguishable. Each features a bulbous ribbed base, trefoil spout, and rounded handle. A distinctive maker's mark is in the form of an impressed "X" at the base of each handle. Size: 3.7" W x 4.95" H (9.4 cm x 12.6 cm)
