Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE. An exquisite matched pair of 15K+ gold earrings presenting a design that displays the utmost artistry and technique. The hoops are adorned by three rows of granules. Attached at the center of these are elegant drops comprised of finely worked filigreed gold featuring a spherical element adorned by linear filigree and a central horizontal band with a rope pattern bordered by linear strands. Below this is a horizontal band of granules followed by a filigreed hemisphere decorated with vertical striations alternating with rows of circular motifs. Finally, a cluster of granules completes the form. Modern french hooks have been added to the hoops to make these undeniable beauties not only a feast for the eyes but also wearable! Size: 2.125" L x 1.125" W (5.4 cm x 2.9 cm); 2.875" L (7.3 cm) including hook; gold quality: 70-72%, equivalent to 15K+; weight: 9.3 grams.

  • Condition: One earring is missing a granule that once adorned the hoop section. Both earrings show expected indentations to several granules and some indentations to the drop components. Still the earrings are in very good condition and are set with modern french hooks to be wearable.
