Description:

Greece, Archaic Period, ca. 6th century BCE. A simple, elegant representation of a bull's head, made to be an attachment on a vessel, instrument, or piece of furniture. A flared, conical neck - open at the base to allow its placement - has the head atop it, which widens into a long, blunt snout; two small ears project from the sides of the head, below a pair of huge, curved horns. The nostrils are impressed dots on the circular end of the snout; the eyes incised, wide circles. Animals were very common motifs in the Geometric period, with the bull, symbol of virility and power, being a particularly popular subject. Size: 3.15" W x 3.75" H (8 cm x 9.5 cm); 4.5" H (11.4 cm) on included custom stand.
