Description:

Ancient Greece, Athens, ca. 5th century BCE. A lovely kylix (drinking cup) with a ringed base, a wide body with tall walls, a thin rim, and a pair of applied parabolic handles. The interior and exterior of the vessel are coated in a lustrous jet-black glaze, with areas of faint silvery iridescence providing a nice complementary layer of color. Stamped in a ring in tondo is a series of acanthus leaves - an elegant touch that requires a discerning eye to notice. The foot features concentric rings of glaze and buff red on the underside, a characteristic of Attic pottery. Size: 8.8" W x 2.75" H (22.4 cm x 7 cm)
