Description:

Ancient Greece, Attic, ca. 5th to 4th century BCE. A set of 2 hand-built pottery vessels from ancient Greece: a skyphos (drinking vessel) and an oinochoe (pouring vessel). The oinochoe exhibits a classic piriform body atop a discoid foot with a high-arching handle and a trefoil-form pouring spout; the tan surfaces are decorated with black tongues, spots, and frets. The larger skyphos is covered in black glaze that now exhibits silvery iridescence and has a squat foot, a deep basin surrounded by thin walls, a pair of projecting handles, and a quartet of petite palmettes impressed within the basin center. Size (skyphos): 8.1" W x 2.25" H (20.6 cm x 5.7 cm); (oinochoe): 2" W x 4.2" H (5.1 cm x 10.7 cm)
