Ancient Greece, Athens, ca. 440 to 425 BCE. A white ground lekythos adorned with a hand-painted central scene in black depicting a pair of female figures facing one another, one seated lady holding a mirror, the other, her lady in waiting, standing opposite and presenting her with another accoutrement of the toilette. Framing the scene is an upper register of meander (Greek key) and lower stylized geometric border comprised of interlaced dotted triangles. The shoulder is elegantly adorned with black striations. Lovely! Size: 1.75" in diameter x 6.375" H (4.4 cm x 16.2 cm)
