Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, Canosan Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd century BCE. A hollow-molded terracotta votive figure of a standing woman bearing faint traces of original blue, white, and salmon pink pigment characteristic of fine Canosan sculpture. The elegant woman stands with a bent left leg and wears a lengthy himation with incised ripples and holds shut one opening with her right hand. Her neckline tapers dramatically and supports her dignified head, and her feminine visage is framed with curly bangs and a tall cap. Size: 4.1" W x 9.3" H (10.4 cm x 23.6 cm)

  • Condition: Repaired from multiple large pieces, with restoration to most of neck, and resurfacing with overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and nicks to legs, body, and head, with softening to some finer details, light encrustations, and fading and chipping to most original pigmentation. Nice earthen deposits and faint remains of original pigment throughout.
