Description:

Greece/Cyprus, Cypro Archaic period, ca. late 8th to 7th century BCE. A fine example of a buff pottery type known as a "pilgrim's flask". This example once had the common "target" motif painted on each of its bulging sides in red, as you can still see a glimpse of here. Items like this one were part of the pan-Mediterranean trade that already flourished in the sea at this early date, and were probably made to be carried in large quantities onboard ships, as shipwreck excavations have proven. Their style was inspired by the ancient Near East. Size: 2.7" L x 3.75" W x 5.9" H (6.9 cm x 9.5 cm x 15 cm)
