Description:

Ancient Greece, Cyprus, Cypriot culture, Common Simplified type, ca. 14th to 13th century BCE. A hand-carved hardstone cylinder seal of green and dark gray colors with a central suspension hole drilled through the body. The incised decorative program features a highly abstract scene of a human-like figure standing with a bipedal creature with a curving tail while a larger, winged figure crouches with one leg extended and feathered wings raised on either side. The spaces surrounding each figure are filled with abstract linear details, perhaps minimalist representations of creatures like reptiles or insects. Custom putty roll-out included. Size: 0.6" W x 1.2" H (1.5 cm x 3 cm); 2.375" H (6 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Zaveloff collection, Lakewood, New Jersey, USA, acquired from Venus Gallery, Israel, in 2002
