Ancient Greece, Cyprus, Cypro-Geometric II to III, ca. 900 to 750 BCE. An elegant wheel thrown pottery vessel with a circular lipped rim, narrow tubular neck, nearly flat sloped shoulder featuring a ribbed looped handle, and a bulbous body that tapers near the bottom to a small annular base. The gorgeous vessel is painted with geometric designs in a hue of dark sienna on a light terracotta ground, presenting with 5 large concentric circle motifs side by side flanked by a series of horizontal bands on top and bottom, an additional series of bands near the base, and a singular circle with sunburst striation encompassing the neck. A gorgeous piece from Cypriot culture! Size: 8.875" in diameter x 5.875" H (22.5 cm x 14.9 cm)

  • Condition: Rim restored from new clay. Repair to area near base with crack line barely visible and stable hairline fissure nearby. Expected surface wear with nicks/chips, fading to paint, and pitting commensurate with age. Otherwise, excellent with lovely earthen deposits throughout.
