Magna Graecia, South Italic, Daunian, ca. 300 BCE. A wheel-thrown pottery amphora decorated with bands of painted ivy and ivy leaves along the midsection of the inverted piriform body as well as atop the everted rim. Additional bands of black and red pigment decorate the upper body, lower body, and foot while enclosed X patterns adorn each handle. Size: 6.7" L x 9.6" W x 9.4" H (17 cm x 24.4 cm x 23.9 cm)

  • Condition: Repaired with restoration to arch of one handle, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines; some new material visible along interior. Abrasions and fading to pigment, with age-commensurate chips and pitting, and light earthen deposits, otherwise in nice condition. Good preservation to original decorations.
