Ancient Eastern Mediterranean, Greece, Classical to Hellenistic period, ca. 4th to 1st century BCE. An elliptical piece of 85% gold (equivalent to 20K+) foil with a stippled rim surrounding a repousse motif that resembles a slender vine or serpent. This delicate piece may have been part of a funerary diadem - it would have been joined to a gold band made to be worn around the head or the neck. Size: 1.5" L x 0.875" W (3.8 cm x 2.2 cm); gold quality: 85% (equivalent to 20K+); weight: 1.5 grams
