Greece, Kingdom of Macedon, Lampsakos, ca. 310 to 301 BCE. A fine silver drachm minted under Antigonos I Monophthalmos, bearing the name and types of Alexander III (Alexander the Great). The obverse depicts the head of Herakles facing right, adorned with his iconic lion skin headdress, a symbol of his divine strength. The reverse features Zeus Aetophoros, the king of the gods, seated left on a low throne. In his left hand, he holds a long scepter, and in his right, an eagle with wings closed stands poised. forepart of Pegasus in left field, Artemis standing left with torch beneath throne. This drachm exemplifies the continuation of Alexander the Great's numismatic legacy, blending the artistry and cultural symbolism of the Hellenistic world. Size and weight of the coin reinforce its role in both commerce and as a statement of Macedonian authority during the turbulent Diadochi era following Alexander's death. For shipments of oversize items, Artemis Gallery will assist the buyer in working with a third-party shipping provider. For shipments outside of the USA, customs and duties may apply upon entry into said country, and this fee, if any, is the buyer's responsibility.
