Description:

Greece, Tanagra, Boeotia, ca. 4th century BCE. A mold-made pottery statuette of a young man standing with hips thrust outwards, one hand on his hip, a draped cloth over one arm. Athletic young men were a very common artistic motif in ancient Greece, representing the idealization of youth that infused the society. Figures like these would have been sold outside of temples by artisans who mass-produced them; they were taken into the temples and placed as votive offerings. Size: 2" W x 5.8" H (5.1 cm x 14.7 cm)
