Ancient Greece, ca. 1st millennium BCE; Roman, Roman Britain, and Eastern Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE; Northern Europe, Anglo-Saxon culture, ca. 7th to 8th century CE; Eastern Europe, Byzantine Empire, ca. late 7th to early 8th century CE. A fine gathering of 10 artifacts from across ancient Europe. The largest is a Greek bronze pin with a double-spiral motif. An Eastern Roman bronze button features the helmeted bust of Minerva. One Roman bronze brooch has a pair of abstract animal heads, and the other is segmented with a slender pin. A leaded bronze stamped pendant bears an abstract horizontal motif, and a brass Romano British figural inlay shows a striding warrior. A Roman leaded bronze pendant is shaped like a dagger with quillons, and a Roman 84.5% gold earring contains 2 petite glass beads. A Byzantine lunate earring with 3 ovoid bezels is shaped from 87.4% to 87.7% gold, and an Anglo-Saxon brooch exhibits a cruciform body.   • Condition: Possible repair to bottom of Roman animal-headed pendant, and repair to pin clasp of Roman segmented brooch. Roman earring missing pin catch. Losses to inlays in Byzantine earring. Loss to pin on verso of Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooch; remaining 5 items are intact and very good. All items have minor abrasions, with light encrustations to non-gold pieces, and slight bending to overall forms of gold earrings. Great patina throughout.
