Magna Graecia, southern Italy, Tarentum, Hellenistic Period, ca. 500 to 330 BCE. A striking pottery head of a male banqueter, possibly Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, displaying a neat, pointed beard, slender eyes, and a lush coiffure crowned by an elaborate headdress of rosettes and plumage. Size: 2.7" W x 3.4" H (6.9 cm x 8.6 cm)
