East Asia, China, Neolithic period, ca. 3500 to 2500 BCE. A pair of hand-built pottery vessels from Neolithic China. The first jar exhibits a squat body, a pair of strap handles, and black linear motifs across the red body. The larger jar a similar design but with a wider body, more petite handles, and an undecorated band surrounding the lower body. Size of largest: 5.4" W x 3.375" H (13.7 cm x 8.6 cm)

  • Condition: Smaller vessel has a couple of spalls and light abrasions, otherwise intact and very good. Larger vessel has stabilization to 2 larger fissures, with chips to rim and handles, fading to pigment, and a couple more hairline fissures. Nice preservation to pigment. Old inventory label on each vessel.
