Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A fine standing figure of a characteristically abstract form, hand-carved from mottled sage-green stone with beige and dark-green inclusions. The figure presents with fused legs, a stocky abdomen, slender arms draped to the waist, and biconically drilled suspension holes through each sloping shoulder. The elongated head presents drilled eyes and string-cut grooves defining the nose, lips, and eyebrows. A fine and early example from ancient Mexico! Size: 1.6" W x 4.1" H (4.1 cm x 10.4 cm); 5.3" H (13.5 cm) on included custom stand.
