Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala, ca. 500 to 100 BCE. A beautiful axe god figure, hand-carved from mottled forest-green stone with black inclusions, with a sanded and meticulously-smoothed surface. The figure stands atop a pair of attenuated legs and boasts string-cut grooves which delineate the arms from the chest, the legs from the waist, and the neck from the head. The elongated conical head exhibits recessed eye grooves, a bulbous rectangular nose, and a wide mouth, all beneath a rounded tip. Size: 2.2" W x 5.625" H (5.6 cm x 14.3 cm); 6.4" H (16.3 cm) on included custom stand.
