Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A lovely anthropomorphic figure, hand-carved from mottled green-hued stone with light inclusions, depicting a standing axe god. The stocky body has a slight forward lean and stands upon delineated legs which taper to a point - hence the name "axe god." The conical head boasts a minimalist visage of grooved lines composing the eyes, mouth, and cheeks, all created through a meticulous string-cutting process. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 2.4" W x 6.625" H (6.1 cm x 16.8 cm).
