Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 100 BCE. A hand-carved greenstone figure of abstract form known as an axe god. The abstract figural form consists of string-cut grooves to delineate the arms, legs, and neck line while additional grooves create the eyes, nose, and mouth. Scholars posit that axe god figures were repurposed from damaged, discarded, or otherwise unusable stone axe heads. Size: 2.125" W x 4.625" H (5.4 cm x 11.7 cm)
