Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 100 BCE. A serpentine axe god of a highly abstract style, the humanoid details rendered to the most minimal of forms. Aptly placed string-cut grooves delineate the legs, head, and mouth. Figures like this one are deemed as 'axe gods' based on scholars' suppositions that they were carved from repurposed stone axe heads that had been damaged or otherwise unusable. Size: 2.3" L x 0.75" W x 3.75" H (5.8 cm x 1.9 cm x 9.5 cm); 4.25" H (10.8 cm) on included custom stand.
