Pre-Columbian, southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 600 to 100 BCE. A beautiful necklace comprised of 45 hand-carved stone beads and a central greenstone pendant in the form of a stylized face, all strung on a modern strand to be wearable. Boasting a wide array of natural hues from sage to cream to tea rose, the beads display varying forms of spherical, discoid, tubular, and conical, all culminating in a sizable pendant. The abstract visage resembles that of an axe god with petite, annular eyes, a prominent nasal crest, a tapered mandible, and an open mouth, all flanked by minimalist, string-cut ears. A stylish accessory, rich in historical and iconographic significance! Size of pendant: 1" L x 1" W x 1.2" H (2.5 cm x 2.5 cm x 3 cm); Size of strand: 24.5" L (62.2 cm)
