Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 600 to 200 BCE. A hand-carved stone figure of characteristically abstract form bearing string-cut grooves that create the anthropomorphic profile. The eyes are drilled into the deeply-carved brow with a faint mouth beneath, and the neck line separates the massive head from the relatively slender body. Size: 1.25" W x 3.125" H (3.2 cm x 7.9 cm)

Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966
