Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. An intriguing, seated figure of a characteristically abstract presentation, hand-carved from a mottled grey stone with lighter inclusions. Seated in almost a fetal position, the figure presents with conjoined arms held atop bent knees, with string-cut grooves delineating the arms, legs, and head. The minimalist visage exhibits characteristic Mezcala features with straight brows, slit-form eyes, a triangular nose, and a petite mouth. A wonderful and early example from the ancient Mezcala! Size: 2.7" L x 1.5" W x 3.5" H (6.9 cm x 3.8 cm x 8.9 cm)
