Evelyn Seleststewa (Native American, Hopi, early to late 20th century CE.) Woven Baby Cradle, ca. 1994 CE. A hand-woven baby cradleboard by Evelyn Seleststewa, of the Second Mesa Hopi tribe, made of scrub sumac and willow, with cotton cords to secure the swaddled baby. Photos and documentation of Seleststewa’s basketry is cataloged in the "Arizona Memory Project" part of the Archives of the Arizona State Museum, University of Arizona. According to "Hopi Basket Weaving: Artistry in Natural Fibers," by Teiwes, Helga published by University of Arizona Press, 1996, Seleststewa was one of the few Hopi elders still creating basketry using traditional sumac branches, often sending her husband to collect them.
