Description:

Eastern Europe, probably belonging to the Cossack people, 16th century CE. A beautiful, heavy iron axe head, stamped on one side with a maker's mark reading "XO". The axe head is long, with a still-sharp, slightly flared blade and a large, rounded socket. The axe was made during the era of the Zaporizhian Sich, a territory from the 16th to 17th centuries CE near the lower Dnieper River. Found near Kiev, which was a trading city at the time. Size: 8.5" L x 4" H (21.6 cm x 10.2 cm)
