Description:

Ancient Greece, late Archaic Period, ca. 8th to 7th century BCE. A beautiful cast-bronze spear head that also perhaps doubled as the head of a thrown javelin. The elongated triangular blade features a distinct midrib along both sides, sharpened edges that taper gradually to a pointed tip, and a pair of drooping flanges along the shoulder. The bottom of the weapon is mounted with a lengthy attachment tang that was fitted inside a deep cavity within a wooden pole. Thick layers of green and brown patina envelop the entire weapon and create an attractive presentation evocative of ancient Greece! Size: 26.9" L x 2" W (68.3 cm x 5.1 cm)

Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, acquired before 2000
