Description:

Ancient Seas, Morocco, Devonian Period, ca. 419.2 to 358.9 million years ago. A monumental polished fossil slab from the Devonian seas of Morocco, designed with four short modern legs that can support a glass surface, allowing it to serve as the midlevel of a table when placed above a lower structure. This extraordinary piece incorporates fourteen ammonites and three Orthocerata (Orthoceras), their fossilized forms preserved in dense limestone and polished to striking effect. The ammonites display coiled shells with intricate suture patterns in tones of black, brown, and cream, while the Orthocerata stretch in elegant tapering cones, their chambered interiors clearly visible. The scale of the slab imbues it with a commanding presence, making it both a centerpiece of natural history and a dramatic functional element. Size: 44" L x 40" W x 5" H (111.8 cm x 101.6 cm x 12.7 cm)

More than 360 million years old, the fossils capture the abundance of Paleozoic marine life: ammonites, ancestors of squid and octopus, and Orthocerata, among the earliest cephalopods to dominate the seas. Adapted for modern use, this slab transforms into a striking table tier that marries immense geological antiquity with contemporary design. It is at once a functional furnishing and a conversation piece that embodies the wonder of Earth's ancient oceans.
